2. Android Permissions & Why We Need Them

To deliver the interactive screen dangle simulation and ambient display experience, Lucky Charm requests the following standard Android permissions. Every permission is used strictly locally on your device:

SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW (Display Over Other Apps)

This permission allows the app to render the lightweight floating talisman over other applications, enabling the charm to sway from your camera notch or screen edge while you use your phone. We do not read or record screen contents. The overlay only draws the simulated cord and charm.

FOREGROUND_SERVICE & FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE

Required by modern Android operating systems to sustain the low-latency physics loop for the dangling charm smoothly in the background without being abruptly terminated by the OS battery manager.

SENSOR_SERVICE (Accelerometer & Proximity)

• Accelerometer: Reads real-time device tilt angles so the charm sways naturally according to gravity and motion. This sensor data is calculated strictly in volatile memory (RAM) in real time and is never recorded or saved.
• Proximity Sensor: Used exclusively in Ambient Always-On Display (AOD) mode to detect when your phone is in a pocket or placed face down. This turns off the screen display to conserve battery.

POST_NOTIFICATIONS

Used on Android 13+ to display an ongoing system notification status when the floating charm service is running. This gives you full transparency and allows you to pause or close the charm with a single tap at any time.

VIBRATE

Provides subtle, satisfying tactile haptic feedback when you flick, touch, or customize your lucky talisman.

WAKE_LOCK

Keeps the screen dimly illuminated during the optional Always-On Display (AOD) mode, allowing you to use your phone as a soothing bedside or desk luck talisman.

3. On-Device Local Storage

The application saves your preferences locally on your physical device using Android's standard SharedPreferences and Room Database. This stored information includes:

• Your currently equipped charm (e.g., Nazar Eye, Omamori, Nimbu Mirchi).
• Your custom cord style, rope material, and vertical/horizontal placement offset.
• Your favorite charms list and sound/haptic toggles.

This data never leaves your device and is erased completely when you uninstall the app or clear app storage in your device settings.

4. Third-Party Services & Diagnostics

We may utilize Google Play Services and Firebase services (such as Firebase Crashlytics or App Check) strictly for non-identifying technical stability, anonymous crash logs, and bot protection. These third-party services operate in accordance with their respective privacy policies:

5. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Lucky Charm is designed for general audiences and does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13 years of age. Because we do not collect personal data from any user, we are fully compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and international child privacy regulations.

6. Data Security & Retention

Because we do not operate remote user account databases or collect sensitive data, your data is as secure as your personal Android device. Since all user settings reside locally in app sandbox storage, you have complete ownership and control over your preferences at all times.
